Paver or natural stone, chosen for how the yard is actually used
We build patios in Techo Bloc's Raffinato, Brandon, Tandem Modular, Graphix and Prescott collections and in Belgard's Dimension Savannah, Old York, Castlemanor and Bordeaux pavers, along with limestone and rustic slab natural stone. Which one goes down depends on how the patio gets used and what borders it. A dining patio next to an outdoor kitchen often calls for a tighter modular pattern like Tandem Modular; a pool deck usually wants Belgard's Old York or a limestone slab that stays cool underfoot instead of glaring back at midday.
The material is the visible half of the job. We walk clients through the actual collections rather than three color swatches on a card, because the difference between Techo Bloc's Raffinato and Belgard's Castlemanor is something you feel underfoot every day the patio gets stood on, not just something you see in a photo.

Drawn to take the kitchen and the fire, not cut in around them later
A patio designed alongside an outdoor kitchen or a fire pit gets its counter clearances, seating room and traffic paths worked out on paper before a single paver goes down. Cutting a kitchen or fire feature into an already-finished patio means working around joints and drainage that were never planned for the footing a grill island or a fireplace needs.
That's why the patio shows up in the same set of drawings as the rest of the backyard on our projects. If a kitchen or fire feature is part of the plan, the patio's shape, drainage and paver layout are drawn to fit them from the first sketch, not adjusted after the fact.
Chapter 03
The base is the work you never see
Grade and drainage get handled before a single paver is set, the same sequence we follow on every landscaping project we build. Middle Tennessee's clay holds water differently than sand or loam, so getting the grade right before the base goes in is what keeps a patio from heaving or pooling water at the low corner a couple of winters later.
None of that base work shows up in a photo of the finished patio, which is exactly why it's worth asking a contractor about before you hire one. We handle it as part of the same design-build contract as everything else in your backyard, not as a separate line item somebody else prices after the fact.
